Swung by for a Friday evening dinner with my family. It was around, 8pm and every minute we were stalling more places would be closed. This was one of the locations in the Fremont area that was still open. We thought the service here was really good. They came and swapped plates for us pretty often. Checked to see if the tea was empty. They even helped refill our cups of tea also. As a bonus, we also get to watch a really really large screen tv of advertising their own restaurant. Haha. The only negative is that it is definitely pretty expensive to eat here. Each dish was $21+!! The quantity was ok though. We ordered some mixed meat clay pot (forgot what it was called but it had pork, mushrooms and also a candle to keep it warm). Maybe it is like Elton John's fav except it is candle in the .... bin .... Well it's not exactly a bin but I needed to rhyme. Haha Anyway, we also ordered a seafood crispy noodle, steamed chicken, some beef soup and hollowed inside veggies (don't know the actual English name). I really enjoyed the steamed chicken and clay pot we had. The steamed chicken was one of the most soft chicken I've ever eaten. The crispy noodle was probably a little bit too saucy and made the middle portion overly soggy. And the hollowed inside veggies were probably on the overcooked side (they were a bit mushy). I thought the beef soup was decent though. Even though service is really good here, I can't really get over how expensive the dishes are. But maybe it wasn't too bad. We did still have leftovers. But because I'm cheap, I would probably decide to eat @ a cheaper place next time.

Came here for a late birthday brunch with family and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Pearl Bay Restaurant is one of the favored dim sum places within our family, and we have yet to be disappointed. Located in the Automall Parkway plaza off Boscell, Pearl Bay serves dim sum in the mornings, before taking a siesta and opening up again for dinner. We sat on the west-side of the restaurant, next to a wall adorned with a stadium-sized TV playing Chinese concerts. Ordering was not by cart, but by pamphlet and pen. Our party of 5 ordered a ton and enjoyed each dish that came out. My favorites have to be the salted lava egg bun, pan fried chive dumpling, and chicken feet, and roasted pork belly. Service was also not too bad - luckily we were with my Cantonese parents who took over ordering and waving people down for help. Overall highly recommend checking out Pearl Bay's dim sum if you're in the area.

First time here on a Sunday night. My favorite dishes are: * Double Boiled Soup of the Day - tastes like Shark's Fin Soup. * Baked Australia Cod Steak (~sea bass) - good texture, flavor, and not too greasy * House Special Fried Rice - fragrant and chewy * Custard Bun - my fav. The buns are not as fluffy as most restaurant's, but the filling tastes much better. Decent: - Roasted Suckling Pig - Traditional Steamed Lobster w/ Garlic - Salted Egg Yolk Lava Bun - sweeter than the Custard Buns and very rich - Steamed Sponge Cake Other dishes we had are: * Geoduck Clam & Chicken Salad - I prefer pure geoduck sashimi * Stir-fry Steak Cubes w/ Mixed Mushroom * Sauteed Deluxe Seafood w/ Special Sauce * Braised Fish Maw w/ Mushroom - I prefer a thicker, more gelatinous Fish Maw * Dessert Soup (ginseng, papaya, peach gum, quail egg, snow fungus) - not as flavorful as I like I won't order again: * Tortoise Jelly was very bitter Nice decor, super clean fish tanks. We had twelve people and it was only $68 per person (everything included). A perfect ending to the week.

Best Dim Sum in Bay Area outside of San Francisco. We drive from San Jose regularly. Great for big groups also.

One of the popular and solid spots for dim sum in the East/South Bay. I probably visit if not once a month then at least once every other month. Dim Sum: It's a very popular spot for large parties on holidays such Mother's Day, Lunar New Year, and Easter Sunday. If you hate waiting I'd recommend celebrating the holiday early or eating at home haha. I was here on all 3 holidays in 2023 and can confidently say their food quality on a holiday is slightly lower than their regular weekend lunch rush. For parties of 8+ you definitely need one person to check in by 11/11:30 and for everyone to be here by 12/12:30 to endure the rest of the wait together. Waitlist: Download Dinfo to view their wait on your phone, otherwise you'll be blindly waiting forever. Dinner: Their dinner hours are less hectic and you can likely be seated soon after arrival. However Pearl Bay is also one of the popular Chinese restaurant wedding venues on the weekends. If you are dining with a large group, I'd recommend calling ahead to check if they have events that night. Unfortunately I came with family friends one night when they had two small weddings on opposite sides of the restaurant. We barely heard each other speak over the drunk karaoke from the weddings. Wedding: For Bay Area rates, this venue COULD be more budget friendly option. If you would like to have your wedding here and Asian lucky dates are important to you, I recommend booking at least a year in advance. My now husband and I reached out early 2023 and our preferred dates for end of the year were taken.

Came here with a large group for my birthday meal and made a reservation via Yelp the day prior. We were concerned about the reservation since we had read some other reviews basically brushed off the reservation and made people wait. When I arrived and mentioned my reservation, they seated us immediately and we were given an extensive menu to check off. What we got: pan fried sticky rice (10/5) -- must-get, was a party fave pork spare ribs (5/5) -- didn't eat because there was so much I wanted to try but my brother and his fiance loved this peking duck (5/5) -- great value, another fave chicken feet (4/5) -- standard baked char siu bao (4/5) -- I thought this was better than steamed since they did the sugar crust well and there was more meat to bun ratio steamed char siu bao (4/5) -- solid flavor but nothing special compared to my family's go-to place ham sui gok (5/5) -- cute pear decoration, very delicious cilantro ground pork filling in fried glutinous rice skin that was not oily at all lo mai gai (3/5) -- overshadowed by the pan fried sticky rice and while had the standard fragrance/flavor, I don't like the dryness of egg yolk in my rice gai lan (4/5) -- rice was standard but the egg yolk kind of threw me for a loop and it didn't help that it was dried out XO rice rolls (10/5) -- Super pricey but so glad we ordered 2x because these are a must...super umami, slightly spicy sauce with springy fun shrimp stuffed eggplant (5/5) -- great execution, up there with Newport's version but served without the garlic black bean sauce siu mai (3/5) -- filling seemed to have a thicker, bouncier texture than I'm used to almost like a fishcake but it tasted fine mango pudding (2/5) -- could have definitely used more mango flavor and texture could have been softer dan taat (3/5) -- not sure if a puff pastry crust was used but the shell was way too dry so I just scooped the custard out with a spoon...I thought this one needed more egg flavor egg/ground pork filled chive dumpling (5/5) -- new item for me, super umami and the texture play between the crispy dumpling skin and the filling was great egg custard pineapple bun (5/5) -- this place puts a chunk of pineapple inside the bun which surprisingly adds to the bite, good custard flavor and cookie flavor...bun was also very tender black sesame coconut mochi (5/5) -- another must-get Service regarding anything was quick, so you can be in and out quickly if you want to. We were able to get help asap with menu questions, tea refills, utensils, boxes, check, etc. I would definitely come back here if I'm in the area and craving good dim sum.
